February - Love Hurts
What’s the only thing more painful than being violently murdered? Presumably, falling in love. This month, we’ll encounter broken hearts - and bones and flesh. All our films feature couples in love, searching for love, or dying....for love.
First up, on February 4th, we’ll kick off the love fest with a romantic newlywed getaway in “Honeymoon” (2014 - available on Amazon, Sling, Tubi, and more). When a new bride goes sleepwalking on her honeymoon, she returns safely to her groom - but is her groom really safe anymore?
To ring in Valentine’s Day, what better film to watch than “Valentine” (2001, available for rent on Amazon)? With a 12% Rotten Tomatoes rating, you just know this one is going to be a killer. Literally! Apparently a group of love-desperate young ladies go out seeking a true Valentine... and get more than they ask for when they want someone to steal their hearts.
Our third Love Hurts February movie will be a challenge for the less literate among us - get ready to have to read with the Columbian film, “The Hidden Face” or “La Cara Oculta” (2011, available on Hulu Premium and possibly Netflix). A new love is thrown into tumult when the girl, while trying to spy on her boyfriend, accidentally locks herself in the panic room of their new house. Seems like a glaring flaw in a panic room design if one is able to get stuck INSIDE of it, but I guess we’ll see how that happens! And what terrors ensue.
Lastly, on February 25th, we’ll travel to Italy for love in “Spring” (2014, available on Amazon, Hulu, and Tubi). “When an aimless young man decides takes an impromptu trip to Italy, he becomes involved with an alluring genetics student who harbors a transformative secret.” That’s the Google blurb for this movie. I’m not sure what I can add to that, because it’s so vague and potentially vast that I have very little idea what to expect from this movie. But Rotten Tomatoes gives it an 84%, so that’s as promising as a good Tuscan wine!
