Let it goooo, let it goooo! Let go of the ski lift before you get stuck on it and the resort closes down for the night! Let it gooo, let it gooo!! I don’t know anything else about this Malaysian horror film! With a title regrettably usurped to international fame a mere three years after its release, the “Frozen” we will be watching on the 21st does NOT take place in the fictional land of Arendelle, but rather on a ski chairlift, high in the air, where three people become stranded after the resort closes. Will there be trolls and ice monsters and talking snowmen? I have absolutely no idea, but we can only hope the musical score lives up to that of its eponymous predecessor.

Whoa. I was actually scared/anxious throughout almost this entire movie. So that’s a pretty big step up from the last couple, right?

But I also kept thinking, “damn, I’ve read WAY more extreme mountaineering nonfiction books than these people, and it shows.” Okay, so maybe I’m a little bit obsessed with extreme mountaineering nonfiction literature.... but, come on, who doesn’t have the natural instinct to cover their face when they have to sleep outside in the elements all night?? Pull your hands into your closest layer, stick them in your armpits, zip up everything that zips, cover all exposed skin, and just accept that your toes are lost to the cause. People have survived nights out in the open, bivouacking on giant ice seracs on K2, y’all. You can survive a night on a ski lift. If you just use your brains a little.

Now I’ve never actually been downhill skiing (but I did spent an exorbitant amount of time being tortured as a child attempting cross-country skiing in South Dakota), so maybe I’m totally out of my element on this one. Realistically, I would’ve been down there with Dan with shattered legs - BUT, I would’ve at least TRIED to lower myself down as low as I could go before dropping! You’re telling me he couldn’t have held on to Joe’s skis and been 5-6’ closer to the ground? And maybe if he’d have dropped before the storm started and brought all that ice....

Overall, I liked it. I wouldn’t have been upset if I’d paid to see it in theaters. I thought the acting was great. The characters were believable (minus that fact that neither of them barfed while Dan was being eaten alive - I almost barfed at home, so imma call that one unrealistic), the anxiety was through the roof. I wasn’t jumpy-scared, but my heart was in my throat the entire time.

I was entertained, I was scared for them, I might have even been a little jumpy. I was also very critical of their poor choices, and OBVIOUSLY I would’ve made way better choices, right? Never leave a room and say, “I’ll be right back.” We all know that one.

That’s a solid B from me, folks.

I walked into this movie assuming it would be terrible, but right before I started I noticed it had 4.5 stars on Amazon! So I thought I'd give it a chance despite the plot, which I couldn't imagine could be interesting enough to fill a full 90 minutes.

Boy was I ever right. The acting was terrible from the get-go (expected). The girlfriend did a passable job, made much more difficult by the screenwriting which seemed ripped from a high school drama class.

A quick note first on the production - I know this was low budget, but the camera shots were terrible, sound/score was unremarkable, and the special effects -- 🤣🤣🤣

OK, so on to the plot. After the very first scene I was convinced by the acting/character development that everybody here was doomed to an early death, and when that happens I try to pick the order. Obviously BF is gone first, and his death did not disapoint. I was genuinely pleased with the wolves throughout (best actors in the film). The broken leg scene was disgusting and waaaaay over the top, but at least the wolves saved this one.

After BF is gone, you could say that "shit got real." At least as real as a bunch of high schoolers think real is. For this part I will simply quote from my live notes, raw and unfiltered:

> Her hand is..... FROZEN... And she's going to rip her own face off

So yeah. At this point I'm just wondering how they're going to fill the rest of the movie. I will say however that the story from the dude about being fat in first grade was actually pretty well done, and I left that scene actually kindof caring about these two. That scene (and the wolves, obv) are the reason I upgraded to a C-.

Finally, I think the ending was pretty underwhelming and not very tense. I was glad to see the wolves one last time, but I still didn't care at all if she made it to the road, got picked up, ate by wolves, etc. Overall, bad movie, great plot, too long, C- would recommend but wouldn't watch again.

Frozen- Yay! I liked one of the movies! I give it a B. Ok, this was suspenseful and emotional after a slow start. It was definitely a series of unfortunate events and choices. But they were just young, stupid college kids.
*Spoilers*: I absolutely would not have jumped from that height. But I was thinking of climbing down the cable from the beginning. And using my legs to sort of zip line down. Probably would have been shredded. I cared about the characters, especially Parker and Joe. Parker cried a lot, but I would have too. She showed some grit and determination at the end. And Joe was really a big wuss, but he was brave when he needed to be. Moral of the movie: Don’t con the lift operator (or anyone) into letting you on free! Karma is a bitch, people.
